Elie Hirschfeld ’s collection, now a published compendium of artworks, depicts the many facets of this ongoing relationship. Olson and published by D Giles Limited , reproduces the Elie Hirschfeld collection of artworks inspired by New York City . Real estate developer, philanthropist, and art collector Elie Hirschfeld began the collection in the 1970s with a 1945 painting by Thomas Hart Benton of Washington Square. The collection — which Elie Hirschfeld has gifted to the New-York Historical Society  — comprises 113 pieces by 82 artists, most of which were executed after 1900. Elie Hirschfeld ’s collection “ Scenes of New York City ,” which has been gifted to The New York Historical Society , is comprised of 130 paintings, works on paper, and sculptures. Elie and Sarah Hirschfeld intentionally acquired the art that expresses the many facets of New York City  — it’s iconic landmarks, quiet scenes, famous artists, and art movements.  Ranging in date from the mid-19th through the 21st centuries, the show has been described as a visual love letter to New York City .  Elie Hirschfeld ’s gift includes works by 82 artists not previously represented in the collections at the New York Historical Society , such as Marc Chagall, Keith Haring, Edward Hopper, Jacob Lawrence, Louise Nevelson, Charles Burchfield, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mark Rothko, and Andy Warhol. Accompanying the project is a beautiful “ Scenes of New York City ” catalogue published by D Giles Limited and edited by Roberta J.M. Olson, the NYHS’s curator of drawings emerita.

  In a recent   TheRealDeal   newsletter, real estate mogul   Elie Hirschfeld   notes that in order for a New York City property owner to pay property taxes or water bills by mail, they must go through a PO box office address in Newark, NJ. Elie Hirschfeld Art Collection on Display Now

 The Jewish Telegraphic Agency notes the Elie and Sarah Hirschfeld Collection in its roundup of what to see in New York City currently. “Scenes of New York City,” the Elie Hirschfeld Collection , is comprised of 130 works, including 82 artists not previously represented at the New-York Historical Society . The theme celebrates views of New York City past and present, and the curation brings an inclusive approach, with insights from a diverse group of local New Yorkers included on the wall plaques, alongside the art historians’ expertise. The Elie Hirschfeld collection will be on view through February 27, 2022. It will then remain in the permanent collection at the New-York Historical Society , to be displayed on rotation.  Among the renowned artists acquired by Elie Hirschfeld and now on display in this collection: Georgia O’Keeffe , Louise Nevelson, Edward Hopper , David Lawrence, David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Mark Rothko, and many more.  The exhibition was curated by Wendy Nālani

Elie Hirschfeld Supports the USA Triathlon Foundation

  Central Park is, according to   Elie Hirschfeld , who’s had opportunity to run throughout the world, “the most magnificent park.” He considers the 6-mile loop his refuge from the the chaos of New York City. Unlike the rest of  New York City , you can’t see more than half a block at a time in  Central Park . “With the curves, you don’t know where it’s going,”  Elie Hirschfeld  said. “Everything is a surprise.” While running the virtual mar a thon last year — “It was me, the Park and hardly anyone else. It was an amazing experience.” — Elie had the idea to put on his own virtual event in support of the park, as well as the  charities  involved in his  sports . He generously donated $27,500 to the  USA Triathlon Foundation , which will benefit running and biking opportunities through the  Central Park Conservancy . And the USA Triathlon’s mission of triathlon for all: youth, adaptive athletes and Olympic/Paralympic hopefuls. He hopes his challenge will inspire others to do something the

Hirschfeld Presidential Fellowship in Comparative Studies - Brown University Announces a New Appointee

  The   Hirschfeld   Presidential Fellowship in Comparative Studies is to be held by new appointee Katharina Galor, according to a recent announcement by  Brown University . The Hirschfeld senior lecturer in  Judaic Studies ,  Katharina Galor  is an art histor i an and archaeologist specializing in the visual and material culture of Israel-Palestine. She completed her studies in art history and archaeology at the Diplôme d’Études Approfondi from the Université d’Aix-Marseille in France and received her PhD in old world art and archaeology from  Brown University . S he has taught at the Hebrew University and Ecole Biblique et Archéologique Française in Jerusalem; at Humboldt University in Berlin; and at Tufts University and the Rhode Island School of Design. Katharina Galor’s publications include “The Archaeology of Jerusalem: From the Origins to the Ottomans” (co-authored with Hanswulf Bloedhorn, Yale University Press, 2013), “Finding Jerusalem: Archaeology Between Science and Ideology
