Scenes of New York City: Elie and Sarah Hirschfeld's Collection

The landmark exhibition showcasing Elie Hirschfeld’s promised gift to the New-York Historical Society is comprised of 130 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. Included in the donation are 113 works by 82 artists not previously represented in the institution’s permanent collection. 

Curator Wendy Nālani E. Ikemoto, curator of American art, brought an innovative and inclusive approach to “Scenes of New York City.”

Racism in Child Welfare: An Elie Hirschfeld Symposium

Earlier this year, the inaugural Elie Hirschfeld Symposium on children’s welfare brought was hosted by NYU. Co-sponsored by NYU’s Family Defense Clinic and the Review of Law and Social Change, the event brought together distinguished panelists – leading experts on family law, public interest, and race – for conversation around the issue of racial injustice in the children’s welfare system. Panelists ultimately issued a harsh critique of the current child welfare system, and calling for its abolition, rather than reform. Elie Hirschfeld Answers Questions: Children, Personal Life, and Creative Interests

As the president and CEO of Hirschfeld Properties, Elie Hirschfeld has been in the New York City development scene for over twenty years. His late father was Abe Hirschfeld, parking garage titan, and Elie has arguable earned an even greater legacy in his own right. Elie Hirschfeld's leadership of Hirschfeld Properties has led to such landmark properties as the historic Hotel Pennsylvania, the innovative Manhattan Mall, and New York's first open-air garage.
